Hello, Families!!!
We are off to a GREAT start after our break!
This term, we are connecting all of our learning to our central idea: Behind every movement is a force that causes it. We will be inquiring into the driving forces behind the Declaration of Independence and its impact on the colonists. We are also inquiring into forces such as gravity, inertia, and friction, and how they cause movement and impact objects.
Students were asked to determine to read a letter that was "found in a 4th grade classroom at another school." They were working to determine the driving forces the letter, what the author was trying to explain, and what reasons the author gave to support their thinking. They then connected the letter to the colonists and King George III. We explore the Declaration of Independence and how each part was a response to tyranny. Ask your child to tell you more!
We are kicking off multiplication this week, exploring how to compare numbers using multiplication. We are going to build on our understanding of numbers using number talks, and describing how we see and solve equations. We will be working to develop place value strategies to multiply multi-digit whole numbers.
In science, we are inquiring into the impact of force on objects, exploring Newton's laws. After viewing the
egg in a cup experiment, student
designed their own experiment to represent different forces using a penny, a cup, and a note card. Today, we designed slingshots and
launched hot wheels cars, measuring the distance and collecting data. We explored the different variables that we can change in this experiment, and will be testing those variables tomorrow!
Don't forget to send in your money for field trips and for the Chelsea Clinton book order.
I have updated the events calendar too!
Have a great evening!
