We had a wonderful field trip today! We walked down to 1st Avenue to Hawk Hollow. This free park is owned by the Wylde Center. Teachers from the Wylde Center were there to lead our class through two wonderful activities related to water and the water cycle. The first was a game that created a visual representation of the water cycle. Students rolled dice at different stations. The station represented different places that water molecules may go, for example, clouds, the ocean, plants, animals, ground water, glaciers, etc... Based on their roll of the dices, students either moved to another station or remained where they were. At each station, they put a colored bead onto pipe cleaner. In the end, they made an awesome and unique water cycle bracelet.
The next activity was about water conservation. After a brief demonstration about the small of amount of drinkable water that we have access to, our teacher had students choose supplies to design a water filter. They used anything from hay to cotton balls to attempt to filter the "bad things" out of water.
It was a great day!!
