DON'T FORGET THAT TOMORROW IS PICTURE DAY!
Happy Wednesday!
I was not here this morning, but got a great report from the sub.
During Social Studies, students put on their perspectives lenses, and we read the book Encounter. From this story, students were able to discuss and identify new perspectives with exploration and discovery. Ask your child to tell you more!
Students worked to find key details in nonfiction texts. They used context clues to determine the important details in a piece about one of our explorers. They then provided support as to why the detail is an important one.
Students are working on a variety of different things in their genius hour groups. Be sure to ask about what they are working on!
Don't forget to get on Sumdog. Only two more days left in our Math-a-thon.
Our first Village Gathering of the year is on Friday at 8:00. Please join us to celebrate our learning from Term 1.
If you have not already signed up for a conference, please do so as soon as possible.
Have a great evening!

Happy Tuesday!
We had a busy day. We have been working hard on multiplication using partial products. We applied our knowledge to solve two-step word problems today. Students were able to successfully complete several problems using models and equations. We will work with multi-step problems tomorrow.
As we continue to explore nonfiction texts during reading and writing, students will be working to create a book about a country that they are interested in learning more about. Students selected their country today.
Remember to get on Sumdog and play, play, play!!!
See you tomorrow!

Happy Monday! We have a busy week ahead, so we hit the ground running!
Students expanded their work from Friday's math lesson to practice multiplying on digit by three and four digits. We also worked to model partial products using number discs on a place value chart. See the links below for tonight's homework.
Lesson 8, page 1
Lesson 8, page 2
Our media center trip focused on locating nonfiction texts for use on our reading responses for term 2. Students did a great job locating books that interest them and are in their reading range.
We continued exploring nonfiction writing and adding to our ideas for the country we wish to learn about.
Math-a-thon is on!! Keep playing on Sumdog to earn points for our class and collect pledges to earn money for our school!!
School picture day is this Thursday. We will take pictures before our recess.
Friday is our first Village Gathering of the school year. We will meet at 8:00 in the multi-purpose room to celebrate our learning from term 1. We hope that you can join us!!
It's not too late to register for the Oakhurst Arts Run 5k benefiting FAVE.

What a busy two days we have had!!
I want to recap our last two school days. Students utilized area models and number disks to model and solve two digit by one digit multiplication. Today, we introduced partial products. When using this strategy, students break the two digit number into its unit parts and multiply to find the product. Then add to find the sum. See the link below to watch our classwork being done.
Today's lesson
We continued to dive in to exploration. Students explored envelopes yesterday, but they were not able to open them. Ask your child to tell you more!!
We began a project about our European Explorers today. This project will last much of the term and will allow students to connect our standards to our UOI.
We began looking at nonfiction text features. Students have worked to create slides in Google Classroom to represent different nonfiction text features. Ask your child to tell you more!!
This directly connects to our writing for this term. Students are currently developing ideas for different countries that they are interested in learning more about.
Whew!!! To say we've done a lot is an understatement.
MATH-A-THON starts TODAY!! Students can work to earn points for our class and our school!
Have a wonderful weekend!!

Happy Wednesday! So sorry for the late post.
Students worked hard today to solve multi-step word problems utilizing the RDW strategy. Ask your child to tell you more and check out this video to help you.
Multi-step word problems with subtraction
Students had a preview lesson for term 2 from Ms. Theisen. They worked to sort galaxies in any way that they could. There were no rules. They were to act like scientists. Ask your child to tell you more!
Everyone worked hard on their Native Americans assessment, and began researching a new ecosystem for a small project that will last the next two days.
We are having a wonderful week and are looking forward to our last two days of the term. See you tomorrow!

Welcome back! I hope you had a great long weekend! We worked hard on our math this morning. Please use the video link below to assist with homework if needed.
Subtracting with multiple regrouping
Students should also study for their Native Americans test. They are taking it tomorrow.
Students worked to complete a graphic organizer about their animal from the zoo trip. They will be working to complete a writing piece about their animal that supports our UOI from term one.
We looked a the structure of a plot. Students examined a bell curve that represents the plot of a story or chapter. We were able to identify the features in the bell curve and connect them to our read aloud. Students also worked to revise their personal narratives to create a great hook or lead that grabs the readers attention.
Please take a look at the communication folders today. There are several important pieces of information that have come home. Also, if you would like to order books from Scholastic (order forms went home last week), please get them to me by Friday.
Don't forget to sign up for your conference! See you in the morning!
