Friday, January 24th

We used prisms to explored refraction and made rainbows around the room!

Exploring images from the Oregon Trail and completing I see, I think, I wonder graphic organizers!

We inquired into the reflection and absorption of light by exploring the idea that the color black is the absorption of all colors!  Students tested four different types/brands of black markers, making predictions and recording results after testing.

We explored symmetry using art!  Students created kaleidoscope names using symmetry.

To celebrate the 100th day of school, we challenged ourselves to complete and recognize 100 acts of kindness in our classroom in two days!  We did it!  I am super proud of our Crew and their effort to recognize the positive things that occur in our classroom each day.

We continued exploring symmetry by playing Mirror Me!  Students took turns adding pieces to their a pattern block design, and their partner had to add the identical piece on the other side of the "mirror" to make their design symmetrical.

We used pattern blocks to measure angles without a protractor, and then we had a little time to create things with them!

Friday, January 10th

To kick off our new Unit of Inquiry, students circulated the room and compared and contrasted pictures.  The pictures represented different perspectives, sides, or time periods on the same topic.  They completed a venn diagram, and wrote down wonderings.

Working to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words using context clues!

We used flashlights to determine the way light behaves when objects are opaque, translucent, and transparent!

On Fridays, we get to play Prodigy!  When we have a successful week, we celebrate with some time playing while we learn math.

We used cooking oil and paper to explore the way light behaves!  Students experimented with different types and colors of paper, deciding how light behaved both before and after oil was added to the paper.

Music performance rehearsal in full swing!  We are ready for Tuesday!

Hard at work prepping for our Learning Celebration!  See you Thursday!

We had a bit of a flooding issue this morning from all of the rain.  Not to worry!  We stayed cool, calm, and collected as we relocated lots of materials, books, and Chromebooks to a room upstairs for the day!  The district is working on the flooding as we speak.  Lots of smiles!
