Students continued inquiry into the European Explorers. They worked to explain their reasons, outcomes, and new perspectives from exploration by creating comic books. They turned out fantastic! Below are some sample pages from the books. We are ready to begin our inquiry into the establishment of the European colonies next week.
Our space inquiry continues! Students spent much of the week comparing stars and planets. Ask your child to tell you differences and similarities between the two!
Stars are balls of gas that are much larger than planets. The sun appears largest because it is the closest star to Earth and the only star in our solar system. There are many more stars than planets and they are much farther away. A star's color depends on its temperature and its brightness depends on the distance from Earth. Stars appear to twinkle because they generate their own light and it is interfered with by Earth's atmosphere.
Planets are made of rocky material or gas. There are eight planets in our solar system, as well as many dwarf planets. Planets are in constant movement, orbiting the sun. Planets do not generate their own light, but reflect light from the sun. They appear to shine in the sky.
We began our research for our writing pieces on our selected countries. The challenges of research are being discovered. Everything from paraphrasing to inability to locate information is helping students develop research skills. We will continue our research process next week.

Important RACE DAY information below!! Please read all the way through to ensure that you have a great experience and that your morning goes smoothly on October 8th!
Xorbia is the online ticket vendor for the 5a5k registration. If you pre-registered online or with a paper form, you should have received a pdf file via email with a bar code on it. Please be sure to bring EITHER a printout of the PDF OR have it available to scan on your smart phone. This allows us to immediately see what race you are doing and what size shirt you ordered and we will get your numbers and shirts distributed in the most efficient manner.
If you do not have your registration printout, you may need to wait in line so your record can be looked up in the system.
The early bird deadline has passed, but online registration will continue through Thursday, October 6th at 6:00pm.
