Monday, October 3rd

I may end up saying this every month, but how is it October?!?!  The months are flying by!

Don't forget that pictures are tomorrow!

We had a fantastic start to our week!  Students were engaged with some word problem strategy and review before our multiplication assessment tomorrow.  They did a great job and are becoming more confident at using the C.U.E.S to help them dissect word problems. C means circle the question, U means to underline key numbers and words, E is to eliminate extra information, and S is to solve and check your work.

Students explored pictures from space and worked to classify them any way that they deemed fit.  They labeled their categories and we had a great discussion on different strategies used by scientists to classify objects.

Small groups excitedly started creating their explorer comic strips.  These are a great chance for review and utilizing of their artistic and creative abilities to explain the reasons, outcomes, and new perspectives associated with each explorer.

Homework today:  Each student came home with their new spelling words and word work packet.  They will be due next Thursday, instead of Friday.  Our tests will be on Friday too.
They also received an explorers reading activity.  This can supplement their 20 minutes of reading each night and can be turned in Friday.
Lastly, there was an explorer review page that is front and back.  This is a study guide to help you quiz/prepare them for their assessment on Friday.

Fifth Avenue 5k and Mayors Mile
Did you know that we are tied for first place in registration?!?!  So amazing!  If you haven't registered, there is still time.  You can even sign up on race day!  Come support F.AVE and our classmates as we run/walk and have a great time!  I would love to meet you before the race.  I will be on the lower playground at 8:15.  Let's show our school spirit by wearing RED (also, my favorite color).  See you there!!!

Have a spectacular evening!
