Students inquired into communicating like a scientists.  They utilized their fingerprints to describe and illustrate effectively.  They were able to compare their fingerprint with others and work to determine a good way of sharing our data.

We inquired further into responsible ways we can use our beliefs to influence others.  Students analyzed political cartoons from the Women's Suffrage Movement.  The explored the symbols and words represented in the cartoons, and inferred which side the cartoon may represent (Suff or Anti), providing evidence to support their inferences.  Check out the cartoons below!

Students worked to develop reasons to support their I believe thesis.  They worked to think about others and how their thesis may help them or what others could learn from this belief.  Ask your child to tell you more!

Important:
Each student will need to send in a plain white shirt to use for field day.  The goal is to have all of our shirts here by next Thursday.  We have parent volunteers coming next Friday to help our class tie dye our shirts.  Thank you!!

Monday, April 18th

Happy Monday!

We had a busy day, inquiring into solving addition and subtraction problems when provided mixed standard units, experiencing what it feels like when only boys or only girls are allowed to vote, and going through some strategies for our test taking this week.

Overall, the class has expressed that they are a bit nervous about testing.  Ms. Ehmer and I have done our best to keep it low key and encourage them that they are prepared and will do their best.  Thank you for your help with keeping things positive at home regarding testing.  It is stressful for everyone, so it means a lot to have your support.

We will begin testing every morning at 8:00, so arriving on time is very important.  Students have a few important morning procedures to complete before we begin testing.  They will need to have one or two books with them for reading when they have completed their test.

We will have a "go with the flow" week when it comes to our schedule.  Students will be given lunch and recess every day, and we will continue to inquire and learn as the week progresses.  Please, do not plan to check your student out in the morning this week, or Monday.  Let me know if you have any questions.

I have added our MAP Testing schedule to the upcoming events.

There will be no homework this week because of testing.  Students should enjoy rest and play after school.

Thank you for all that you do to support our class!

Monday, April 11th

Welcome back!  I hope you enjoyed a restful week off.

Ms. Ehmer and I were so excited to see everyone today and hear about trips and activities from last week.  We had an interesting start to our morning.  The power was off for much of the morning, and we had two fire alarms go off.  Everyone was safe and we continued with our day as usual.  Students did a great job of "going with the flow" as we maneuvered through a different day.

We were able to begin our math for this term just a bit by learning a story about The Land of Gallon.  Ask your child to tell you about the picture!

We dissected our new Central Idea for Term 6, and our class posted some great questions related to our lines of inquiry.

If you are available to mentor a group of fifth graders for Exhibition, please read the information below complete the form in your child's red folder.

F.AVE is looking for parent volunteers to assist with mentoring 5th grade groups during Exhibition. You do NOT have to have a child in 5th grade to volunteer!

Your primary responsibility is to keep students on track and assist them with finding resources, especially those in the community. Teachers will provide guidance on your role each time you visit.

There is a more detailed letter in this week's communication folder and there will be an informational meeting next Monday, April 18 from 6-7. Your commitment is for an hour a week and teachers can accommodate your schedule. Please fill out and return the form. This is an excellent way to better understand the International Baccalaureate Program.

Have a wonderful day!
