Monday, September 26th

Happy Monday!

We're off to a great start!

Genius Hour groups met this morning.  The group that works with me for Genius Hour has been attempting to spend $1,000,000!  They have specific criteria that is required for their spending, and are keeping record of their purchases on a "check book."  This great, real world application of addition and subtraction strategies, as well as budgeting, and planning for spending has the kids super excited!

We expanded our understanding of place value strategies to multiply two digit numbers by two digit numbers.  Students are able to draw area models for representation of their equation and utilize them to solve.

Students acted as explorers when inquiring into the characteristics of space objects seen in pictures on their iPads.  They were working to collect information and sketch their image.  Only some of the students were allowed to use the zoom feature to see their pictures up close.  Tomorrow will will compare our outcomes and discuss new perspectives about exploration.

Tomorrow, we will begin our CogAT testing.  On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will begin at 8:00, and on Thursday, we will begin at 9:00.  It is a short assessment and will give us information about how each child learns.

Have a great night!
