Tuesday, January 19th

Welcome back!

We had a great day!

We continued to inquire into finding equivalent fractions by looking for patterns between the numerators and denominator.  Students worked to use multiplication and/or division to find equivalent fractions to their given fraction.  They represented their findings with a fraction model.

As we move through reading stations this week, students are inquiring into the elements of poetry, prose, and drama.  We are working to add those details to our reading reflection journals, and will utilize them as we move forward.

Classroom Need
We are in need of baggies.  If you are able to donate any, it would be greatly appreciated.

School Need
We are still in need of parent volunteers for our College and Career Explorations.  Please see the information below and the link below.  Thanks in advance!

Explorations Sign Up

At Fifth Avenue, we want to offer an outlet for students to explore their interests that may lead to a college or career choice. We want to foster curiosity and expand children's experiences in a variety of disciplines and skills. We also want to provide enriching opportunities for them to develop and strengthen the IB transdisciplinary skills: research, social, thinking, communication and self-management.
When
College and career explorations will occur on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 1:00 PM -2:30 PM

How
F.AVE community (staff, parents, businesses, etc.) members will be asked to design an experience for a group of students that will support their development of an interest that may lead to a college and/or career choice. A minimum of 14 students per adult supervision will ensure that there is a balanced teacher/student ratio for all.

Where
Explorations can occur all around the school and the local community. This is a perfect opportunity to explore colleges and/or careers in our local community and right here in our school!

Sign-up process
Each staff member and interested parent and/or community member should sign up to either lead independently (minimum-14 students) or co-lead (minimum 24 students) an exploration. The sign-up should include a title and brief description of the exploration. In addition to this, adults must indicate the IB transdisciplinary skill(s) that will be focused on during this time. Any parent or community volunteers will have a F.AVE staff member assigned to their exploration as well. The purpose of having the staff member is to assist with the exploration and/or handle any emergencies that may arise during the time. Staff are familiar with the students and the process and procedures of the school.

If you have already taught an exploration and would like to teach the same class, please go to the link and indicate that option on the form. Make sure to indicate whether or not this month's class is for a new group of students or a continuation with the same students.

The deadline is midnight this Sunday, January 24, 2016.

Have a great night!
