It was so wonderful to see all of the smiling faces this morning.
Congratulations to Lea K! She is our class elected Superstar of the Month for December. We are so proud of you!
We had a great start to our day, picking up where we left off with geometry by classifying triangles. Students used inquiry to organize triangles into groups. They determined their own criteria. Some sorted by angle type and others by side length. We were able to dive into classification of triangles using both criteria.
We rounded out our afternoon by updating our STAR Reading Assessment and do an on demand writing piece to pre-assess our narrative writing for this term.
We are looking forward to our Village Gathering to celebrate our learning from term 3. Please join us on Friday at 8:45 in the multi-purpose room. See you there!
See the information below if you are interested in volunteering to lead a College and Career Exlorations.
See you tomorrow!
At Fifth Avenue, we want to offer an outlet for students to explore their interests that may lead to a college or career choice. We want to foster curiosity and expand children's experiences in a variety of disciplines and skills. We also want to provide enriching opportunities for them to develop and strengthen the IB transdisciplinary skills: research, social, thinking, communication and self-management.
WhenCollege and career explorations will occur on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 1:00 PM -2:30 PM.
How
F.AVE community (staff, parents, businesses, etc.) members will be asked to design an experience for a group of students that will support their development of an interest that may lead to a college and/or career choice. A minimum of 14 students per adult supervision will ensure that there is a balanced teacher/student ratio for all.
Where
Explorations can occur all around the school and the local community. This is a perfect opportunity to explore colleges and/or careers in our local community and right here in our school!
Sign-up process
Each staff member and interested parent and/or community member should sign up to either lead independently (minimum-14 students) or co-lead (minimum 24 students) an exploration. The sign-up should include a title and brief description of the exploration. In addition to this, adults must indicate the IB transdisciplinary skill(s) that will be focused on during this time. Any parent or community volunteers will have a F.AVE staff member assigned to their exploration as well. The purpose of having the staff member is to assist with the exploration and/or handle any emergencies that may arise during the time. Staff are familiar with the students and the process and procedures of the school.
If you have already taught an exploration and would like to teach the same class, please go to the link and indicate that option on the form. Make sure to indicate whether or not this month's class is for a new group of students or a continuation with the same students.

The deadline is midnight January 24, 2016.
